Dutch vs English in final of men's WDF World Cup team event

The English men's team has made it to the team final at the WDF World Cup in Esbjerg, Denmark. On Saturday, they will play the Netherlands in the final.

In this team event, a team of four men competes against a team from another country. A team member from one country takes turns playing a leg against a team member from another country.

The Dutch men's team is formed by Berry van Peer, Jelle Klaasen, Wesley Plaisier and Ryan de Vreede. They easily defeated Slovenia (9-5) and Gibraltar (9-1) in the group stage.
They then dealt with Northern Ireland (9-5), Germany (9-2) and Scotland (9-2) for a spot in the last four. In the semifinals against Sweden, the Dutch men trailed 1-3, but prevailed 9-6. In the final, they face England (Jamie Atkins, Scott Mitchell, Reece Colley and James Hurrell), which managed to win 9-5 over Australia in the semifinals.

The English ladies remarkably failed to reach the finals of the women's team event. Lorraine Winstanley, Beau Greaves, Claire Brookin and Deta Hedman lost 9-5 to Wales' Leanne Topper, Rhian O'Sullivan, Alannah Waters-Evans and Eve Watson in the semifinals. They will play Katie Sheldon, Robyn Byrne, Aoife McCormack and Caroline Breen from Ireland in the final. The Dutch ladies earlier lost 9-7 to the Irish women in the last sixteen.

The Croatian men's national team on Thursday, September 28, 2023. in the group stage of the competition was defeated by Denmark with a score of 9:3, while later it defeated eighth seed Canada with 9:6, which proved to be enough to pass the group. There, a cheerful Welsh team was waiting, which celebrated with a score of 9:4, thus eliminating the Croatian national team from further competition.
