Raymond van Barneveld: A Dutch darts legend
Raymond van Barneveld, known as "Barney," is one of the most iconic players in darts history. With five world titles (four BDO, one PDC) and numerous other tournament victories, he became a national hero in the Netherlands and a fan favorite worldwide.
Born on April 20, 1967, in The Hague, van Barneveld began his career in the 1980s, quickly rising through the BDO ranks and winning his first world championship in 1998. In 2007, he moved to the PDC, where he claimed more major trophies, including the 2007 World Championship and multiple team titles in the World Cup of Darts.
Beyond his success on stage, Barney is admired for his sportsmanship and humble personality. Partnered for years with Target Darts, he used 25-gram darts designed to match his unique throwing style.
Although he officially retired from professional play in 2020, van Barneveld remains active in the sport as a commentator and exhibition player, continuing to inspire fans and future darts talents alike.
